Accommodation Near Aldeburgh; the seafront, the Scallop and the slow Suffolk evenings.

Aldeburgh is one of those rare English coastal towns where almost nothing has been allowed to slip. The Georgian and Victorian frontages along the high street still look out across a working shingle beach, the fish huts still sell what was caught that morning, and the Maggi Hambling Scallop sculpture still divides opinion every summer. The Aldeburgh Festival, run from Snape Maltings four miles inland, gives the town its cultural backbone.

We do not currently manage a property within Aldeburgh itself, but we run several homes within a fifteen-minute drive that have been chosen by guests specifically for Aldeburgh stays, quieter at night, easier to park, and with the kind of kitchens you cannot get inside the town centre.

What makes Aldeburgh worth the trip

Walk the length of the seafront and you have the measure of the town: shingle beach to your left, lifeboat station, fishermen's huts, the Moot Hall, and a high street running parallel that handles bookshops, delis, fishmongers and a couple of properly good restaurants. The Scallop sits a short walk north along the beach, framed against the sea and the sky. Aldeburgh is a town for slow days.

Snape Maltings

Inland, the Snape Maltings complex is the cultural anchor of this stretch of coast, concert hall, food halls, art galleries and a riverside walk along the Alde. It is open year-round and far less crowded outside festival weeks. Ten minutes from Aldeburgh and ten minutes from any of our Leiston or Saxmundham properties.

Where to stay for an Aldeburgh visit

Our Leiston properties sit around fifteen minutes from the Aldeburgh seafront and benefit from off-road parking and proper kitchens. Mill Rise in Saxmundham is fifteen minutes from Aldeburgh in the other direction with rail access for arrivals from London. Wickham Market and Wenhaston work well for groups who want more space than the town offers.

FAQs

Common questions.

Why not stay in Aldeburgh itself?

It is a wonderful town to stay in if you can find a well-run, well-located house, but stock is small and prices climb in season. Our Leiston, Saxmundham and Wenhaston properties offer the same coastline with more space, off-road parking and far better availability.

How long is the drive to the Aldeburgh seafront?

Ten to fifteen minutes from any of our Leiston properties; about fifteen minutes from Saxmundham; twenty from Wenhaston.

Is there parking in Aldeburgh?

Yes, pay-and-display along the seafront and in town, but it fills early in summer. Arriving before ten or after four is the usual local advice.
