Location

Accommodation in Saxmundham; rail-connected, contractor-ready, fifteen minutes from Sizewell.

Saxmundham is the workaday market town of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, a high street that includes a Waitrose and Tesco, a working mainline railway station on the East Suffolk Line, and a population that genuinely lives here year-round rather than turning over with the seasons. For anyone working at the Sizewell area, that combination is unusually useful.

Our Saxmundham property, Mill Rise, is a five-minute walk from the railway station and a fifteen-minute drive to Sizewell. It is one of the most-booked contractor stays on the network because of where it is, not just what is in it.

Why Saxmundham works

It is rare on the Suffolk coast to find a town where you can step off a train, walk five minutes, drop your bag and have a Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl, GP, dentist and a couple of decent restaurants all within walking distance. Saxmundham is that town. For contractors who do not want to drive every day (or who fly in via Stansted and rail across) it is the natural choice.

Around the high street

The town's character is quietly Suffolk: narrow Georgian frontages, a market square, and a market still held on Wednesday mornings. The independents (bakeries, butchers, the deli) punch above their weight. Snape Maltings is fifteen minutes south for a proper dinner or a concert; Aldeburgh is the same distance east for the seafront.

  • Waitrose, Tesco and Lidl in town
  • Mainline station on the East Suffolk Line, Ipswich, Lowestoft, London
  • Wednesday market and Saturday food market
  • Snape Maltings concert hall and food shops 15 minutes south
  • Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and the coast 15 minutes east

Commuting to Sizewell from Saxmundham

The drive is straightforward (out via the B1119 toward Leiston, then on to Sizewell) and traffic is rarely a problem outside of summer Saturdays. Allow fifteen minutes door to gate. There is no rail option direct to Sizewell, so a car is needed for the final leg even if you arrive by train.
